The death of the Patriarch and the Jews
[edit]Proof that Jewish people were not involved in the murder of Gregory V[1] This article is just following the same old line of Jewish hatred throughout the centuries. The war the greeks had was with the ottoman empire and apparently their significant losses had taken a toll on their mental ability. Because Jewish people were successful entrepanuers in Odyessa the greeks found what they thought was a weaker less populous group of people to scapegoat rather than the ottomans. Edit war on this page about patriarch's death
[edit]It would be wise that instead of continuing to revert, editors involved in this edit war read the corresponding reference (the book is online). The ip is only restoring the last stable version containing the info present in the book (text plus note nr. 43 at p. 17). If there are other interpretations of this fact (with sources) feel free to insert them in the article, but consider that changing the referenced text of an article in a way that is not conform to the reference is considered disruptive editing. The correct way to solve the problem is to discuss here the issue, leaving the last stable version in place until consensus has been reached. Alex2006 (talk) 08:33, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
Omission of almost his entire career
[edit]This article jumps from his first election as patriarch to his death, with no information about what he did in between, or why he was patriarch three times. Is there really nothing to report? I doubt it. Richard75 (talk) 12:25, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
- You are correct. He was removed twice for political reasons but I didn't have time when I last edited the page to add that in there. Xenophore; talk 17:53, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
About his death
[edit]There is some more info about his death here from this article, I'm not sure how to add in this info to the page with the right format. I've only translated articles and did small edits so far on Wikipedia, so I don't want to mess it up.
Eflak ve Mora isyanlarıyla ilgisi tesbit edilen Patrik II. Gregorios, II. Mahmud’un emriyle Bâbıâli’ye çağrıldı ve yapılan sorgulamasında Fâtih fermanında belirtilen çerçevenin tamamen dışına çıktığını, kanuna ve kamu düzenine aykırı faaliyetlerde bulunduğunu itiraf etti; ayrıca yapılan tahkikat sonunda, Paskalya gecesi Rumlar’ın müslümanlara saldırmak için hazırlık yaptıkları da anlaşıldı. Bunun üzerine patrik Fener’e gönderilerek Paskalya gecesi patrikhânenin orta kapısında asıldı (1821)
Claim Gregory Commited Suicide
[edit]Wikipedia lists Gregory's cause of death as "Suicide" in fastfacts that heads the article. This is manifestly unhistorical and probably malicious. I asked Wikipedia to correct this gross mischaracterization 10 days ago but they have taken no action. How can I escalate this matter? Polambda (talk) 00:25, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
